24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on SOLID rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

At FCA Lacrosse, we are constantly striving to build a culture that reflects the Gospel. While we enjoy success on the field, who we are off the field will ultimately define our organization. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes looks at four core values that defines the Christian athlete – service, integrity, teamwork and excellence. As we go through our Fall Huddle Series we will continue to understand what the core values of being a follower of Christ are. Ultimately, we hope to build a SOLID foundation as a Christian.

Our series comes from Matthew 5-7, known as the Sermon on the Mount. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us what it means to repent and belong to the kingdom of heaven. In other words, it describes the lifestyle of those who belong to his kingdom. This sermon does not mean that if you act this way then you’re automatically saved and if you fail to do these things then you’re going to hell. Sinners are saved from the wrath of God by His grace through our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. However, this sermon shows us the lifestyle that properly represents Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of Heaven to others on this earth. Striving to live based on the Sermon on the Mount will cause you to clearly understand the power of the Gospel.

These four huddles are continuing the SOLID series culminating to the Winter Retreat. At the retreat, we will look at the theme verse and discuss Jesus’ final thoughts about everything he’s just taught. Our theme verse will hopefully remind you of the potential positive and negative consequences of applying our huddles to your everyday life. Jesus doesn’t just give us these teachings because he wants us to follow the rules, but because He wants what’s best for us as humans who were made in the image of God and saved by Jesus Christ.
